About the Program
The Municipal Assistance Program (MAP) is a unique service offering provided by UConn TAB. During this program, entities that apply are paired up with University of Connecticut students and a UConn TAB staff member. Students participate in a Service Learning Brownfield Practicum Course held at the University of Connecticut and taught by UConn TAB Executive Director Dr. Randi Mendes and UConn TAB Program Manager Dr. Hayley Clos.
The program is completely free to public entities!
In the fall semester, the students learn about brownfields while working alongside an entity applying for a brownfield grant(Fall MAP - Grant Support). In the spring semester, they implement what they've learned and support entities with brownfield-related technical projects(Spring MAP-Technical Project Support). Finally, in the summer, student interns are hired to support the UConn TAB team with all project request types(Summer MAP-Technical Project Support). All projects are led by a UConn TAB staff member, and all deliverables are quality checked and verified by the UConn TAB team before being delivered to the participating entity.
About the Application:
- The application is very short, quick, and easy.
- It contains a few questions regarding the applicant, the site(s) of interest, and the project support request.
- The application will be followed by a brief 30-minute informal interview where the UConn TAB team will ask for more information about your request in an effort to better understand the scope.
- Once accepted, the entity will participate in an intro meeting with the assigned UConn TAB staff and student(s).
- *Conclusion of the program entails a final presentation by the student and deliverables reviewed and sent by UConn TAB staff.
*Time of completion varies depending on the project type.
When to Apply:
- The MAP opens a Request for Proposals (RFPs) 3 times a year. While the RFP dates vary annually, requests to participate in the program and related inquiries are always welcome. Please contact us at uconn-tab@uconn.edu.
