What is the EPA BFJT Program?

EPA’s Brownfields and Land Revitalization Program empowers states, Tribal Nations, and local communities to assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse contaminated properties. The EPA Brownfields Job Training (BFJT) Program provides technical assistance to help nonprofits, local governments, and other eligible organizations build local workforces to perform assessment, cleanup, or preparation of contaminated sites (including brownfields) for reuse. Training programs funded by BFJT grants train unemployed and under-employed residents from brownfields-impacted communities for careers in environmental cleanup and related fields.

The BFJT Technical Assistance Program, delivered through Tetra Tech and Adaapta, supports communities seeking to apply for and implement EPA BFJT Grants.

EPA's BFJT Technical Assistance helps communities:

  • Understand EPA BFJT Grant requirements
  • Design strong workforce training programs aligned with local employer needs
  • Track program outcomes and establish data collection and performance measurement strategies
  • Build partnerships with workforce boards, employers, and community organizations
  • Strengthen long-term program sustainability and job placement outcomes
  • Access tools, templates, and other beneficial resources

Through regular national outreach, individualized consultations, and the development of tools and resources, EPA’s BFJT Technical Assistance builds organizations’ capacity to design, implement, evaluate, and sustain successful workforce development programs using proven best practices.
